Studio 4 Acoustic Session

Tigers Jaw / Studio 4 Acoustic Session / 2015 / MM002

Back in high school there was a moment my band and I got really into jamming to and covering Tigers Jaw self titled album. I remember countless plays of The Sun, Plane vs. Tank vs. Submarine, I Saw Water, Chemicals, and Never Saw It Coming up in my friend Tyler’s attic. Besides these tracks being extremely catchy, there was something so cool about listening to this underground band (that was quickly growing) residing just north of us in Scranton, PA. In September of 2013, Will Yip hosted a live studio acoustic session of Tigers Jaw and Anthony Green one night where each set was recorded in house. Two years later in 2015, Yip creates his own record label titled Memory Music where he releases the Tigers Jaw session to the public as his second release on the label. I found this copy at the now closed up shop on Ocean City, New Jersey’s boardwalk, Shore Things. What an amazing place that will be forever missed.

After the release of the bands fourth album Charmer in 2014 members Adam Mcllwee, Dennis Mishko, and Pat Brier left the band leaving mainstays Ben Walsh and Brianna Collins to carry on. Ironically, the Studio 4 Acoustic Session in 2013 is just the two of them playing a mix of titles from Tigers Jaw, Charmer (which hadn’t released yet), and even a Title Fight cover. It’s a great compilation featuring some of the best songs they have ever written. Brianna typically fronts the keys, but for this set she just provides her amazing vocal harmonies and lets Ben show of his truly talented guitar work. I don’t think he makes a single mistake the entire session. Recommended listens include Distress Signal, Chemicals, I Saw Water, and Teen Rocket. I still cover these songs fairly regularly on my own acoustic.

The Studio 4 Acoustic Session was recorded on September 21st, 2013. It was engineered, mixed, and mastered by Will Yip. The cover art and layout was done by Brianna Collins. You can listen to a cover of Distress Signal I recorded a few years ago but never released here. Features my wife Erin on vocals covering Brianna’s part.
